Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.- International Women's Day is a date that is commemorated in many countries around the world. When women from all continents, often separated by national borders and ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic and political differences, come together on this day, they can look back on a tradition of no less than ninety years of fighting for equality, justice, peace and development.
This celebration or remembrance permeates the different strata of the world population even in countries of all kinds including Muslims, Buddhists, in short, to which sport at all levels does not escape.
In this way, the Dominican Kurash Federation has a special dedication to this activity every year on this date for its women who work as athletes, coaches, referees and association leaders, all with an excellent service record.
This is the case of the athletes from the Kurash Association of the Hermanas Mirabal Province with Griselianny Perez Tapia, Mística Franyeli Nuñez Lantigua and Yuleidy Ines Rosario Gonzalez who have carried out a fruitful competitive career representing their territorial area based in the city of Salcedo. .
Likewise, Francisca Ortega from the same Kurash Association of the Hermanas Mirabal Province who holds the position of general secretary of the aforementioned entity and at the same time has excelled in the arbitration area of this ancestral discipline of more than 3500 years of existence.
Other women place their mark on the national and international kurash, as is the case of Juana Morban as an athlete in elite events while serving as a referee and in the sports management of both national and international events.
These and many more are the ones that have had an important activity in the development of the kurash at a national and international level, such as Ruth Montero, Evelyn Cuevas, Fanny Ocasia Bello, Andrea Collado, Yaraymi del Carmen Ortiz, among others.
This International Women's Day has great support from the United Nations, Local and National Governments, producing demonstrations in the main cities of the world, including the Panamerican Kurash Union (UPK) and the International Kurash Association (IKA).
