Santo Domingo, República Dominicana.- Los destacados atletas Yoeliza Contreras y Benjamin Matos fueron seleccionados como Atletas del Año 2018 sobre la base de sus destacadas actuaciones compitiendo en las divisiones de peso de los 57 y 60 kilogramos, tanto en femenino como en masculino, respectivamente.

Ambos atletas tienen un amplio historial de logros medallisticos al obtener preseas doradas en los Campeonatos Nacionales, XIV Juegos Nacionales Hermanas Mirabal, Torneo Internacional de Kurash de Playa y en los Campeonatos Panamericanos Abiertos, entre otros.

La escogencia se hizo en base a la recomendación del Cuerpo Técnico de la Fedokurash cuyos directores los son Franklin Perez y Gimbel de León en las áreas de arbitraje y deportiva, respectivamente.
La exitosa participación del Kurash en los pasados XIV Juegos Nacionales Hermanas Mirabal que se desarrollaron en la ciudad de Salcedo del 6 al 16 de diciembre permitió que ésta disciplina de Kurash formara parte como deporte oficial a la justa nacional con el respaldo del Comité Organizador, Ministerio de Deportes y el propio Comité Olímpico Dominicano.

Fedokurash presents athletes of the
Year 2018
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.- The outstanding athletes Yoeliza Contreras and Benjamin Matos were selected as Athletes of the Year 2018 on the basis of their outstanding performances competing in the weight divisions of the 57 and 60 kilograms, both in women and men, respectively .

Both athletes have a wide record of medalist achievements in obtaining gold medals at the National Championships, XIV Hermanas Mirabal National Games, International Beach Kurash Tournament and the Open Panamerican Championships, among others.

The athletes are part of the Association of Kurash of the Province of San Cristobal (ASOKUSC), which is chaired by Professor Israel Caraballo Jimenez who is also the first executive of the Dominican Federation of Kurash (Fedokurash).
The choice was made based on the recommendation of the Technical Body of the Fedokurash whose directors are Franklin Perez and Gimbel de León in the areas of arbitration and sports, respectively.
The successful participation of the Kurash in the past XIV Hermanas Mirabal National Games that took place in the city of Salcedo from December 6 to 16 allowed this Kurash discipline to be part of the national joust as an official sport with the support of the Organizing Committee, Ministry of Sports and the National Olympic Committee itself.

"It is a tradition that the Kurash awards the Athlete of the Year award, which in this opportunity fell to the young Yoleliza Contreras and Benjamin Matos in the male branch who are an example of discipline for the other practitioners of our organization throughout the national territory. "said the president of Fedokurash Professor Caraballo Jimenez.
