Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.- Judging by the different activities and their respective achievements, the Dominican Kurash Federation can exhibit important and unmatched successes both organizationally, competitively and in training in 2023.
Even though the lack of support from the Ministry of Sports was notorious, the Fedokurash leaders were able to set up the scheme to obtain the corresponding resources that facilitated the extensive development of the calendar activities.
Month by month, the Fedokurash Executive Committee with its Technical Body and the support and collaboration of the different affiliated associations managed to extrapolate national development to the international arena.
It is precisely where internationally we managed to place six (6) athletes in the Kurash World Series Pro (WSP) for the first time in the qualifying round held in Santo Domingo; Dominican Republic on August 27, 2023.
In fact, they qualified for the Grand Final of the World Series Pro that took place in the capital of Uzbekistan, Tashkent and where Audrey Puello won the silver medal competing in the free weight category.
On the other hand, Tomas Belén, an outstanding 81 kilogram athlete, won the bronze medal.
The others, Juana Morban, Gilbel de Leon, Gabriel Ramirez and Enmanuel Uribe had an outstanding performance in the World Series Pro event where previously qualified athletes from the five continents see action.
Following the international participation from November 23 to 28, 2023 we participated in the Ordinary Congress of the International Kurash Federation (IKA) and in the XIV World Championships in the city of Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.
Precisely in these World Championships, the Dominican Audrey Puello won the gold medal, being the first athlete from America and therefore the only to place herself as a medalist in a World Cup event.
On January 19, and in what was an important exchange of impressions with the president of the Executive Committee of the Dominican Olympic Committee, engineer Garibaldy Bautista received the introduction once again of the application for membership of the Dominican Kurash Federation, Fedokurash, from the hands from also an engineer Jaime Casanova Martínez acting in his capacity as secretary of the federated entity.
Different national and international organizations congratulated the Dominican Kurash Federation in celebrating the organization's National Day this February 23, 2023 through messages, phone calls, and making posters to highlight the sports entity on behalf of the International Kurash Association (IKA), the Panamerican Kurash Union (PKU) and National Federations, among others.
International Women's Day every March 8 is a date that is commemorated in many countries around the world, which Fedokurash joins with its grassroots organizations in this celebration without ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic, political and gender differences. a tradition of no less than 90 years of fighting for equality, justice, peace and development for women.
Following the mandate of the current statute, the Dominican Kurash Federation (Fedokurash) held its annual Ordinary General Assembly of this year on April 2.
The activity in question was carried out virtually with the participation of the Founding Members, the Executive Committee, incorporated associations and those in the process of incorporation, as well as unincorporated associations.
A date that cannot be ignored is April 6, which is designated as the International Day of Sports for Development and Peace and during this day the schools, universities, clubs, associations, national federations, Ministries of Sports , National Olympic Committees, among others, carry out activities with informative campaigns around sport to which Fedokurash joins.
This activity has broad support from the International Olympic Committee and the United Nations (UN).
On May 7 we held the National Championships in Children, Youth and Senior, women and men with the participation of all the Associations affiliated with the Fedokurash and the activity was held at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center in Santo Domingo with more than 175 athletes in addition to coaches, referees, technical staff and managers.
On May 31 we joined the XXIX version of World Challenge Day, which is a campaign to encourage the practice of sports and physical activities carried out by public and private institutions and which was celebrated in this city of San Pedro de Macoris organized by the Dominican Federation of Sports for All (FEDODET).
This activity is a global initiative of TAFISA (The Association For International Sport for All) and has the support of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
On June 23, the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games, El Salvador 2023, were inaugurated.
The Dominican Republic was the host of seven (7) sports including Tae Kwon Do, Equestrian, Clay Pigeon Shooting, Modern Entalone, Field Hockey, Badmington, Rowing and Canoeing which we had the opportunity to enjoy.
The Kurash Association of the Province of Azua (Asokurazua) developed a National Course on Arbitration and Management of Elite Events on July 22 as part of the preparation of the technical staff to work in the Panamerican Week of this ancient sporting discipline to be held in Santo Domingo in the month of August from August 22 to 29.
Precisely on that date, from August 22 to 29, the Panamerican Kurash Championships, the Kurash World Series Pro and the International Kurash Beach Tournament were held in the Dominican Republic with the organization of the Dominican Kurash Federation (Fedokurash).
These events were part of the Panamerican Kurash Week where, in addition, Refereeing and Training Courses were taught.
In the competitions, the Dominican Republic won top honors in the World Series Pro Kurash championship, obtaining three gold medals and the same number of silver to achieve the highest score among the dozen countries participating in the Panamerican Kurash Week. , a day that was very successful in Santo Domingo and Boca Chica.
Both the men and women of the Dominican Republic combined to achieve that trio of gold and silver medals by accumulating the amount of 475 points, which surpassed Costa Rica, which said goodbye with two gold medals, and Mexico, which had one, as well as three of silver.
The three competitors from Quisqueya who won the gold badges were Tomás Belén in the 81 kilograms, Gabriel Ramirez Vizcaíno in the 90 and Audrey Puello, female in the open category.
For their part, Gilbert De León, Enmanuel Uribe and Juana Morbán won the silver medals in their respective fights, which were held in the Karate Pavilion at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center.

This 2023 corresponded to Sunday, October 1, where the 24 hours in movement around the world is displayed with great joy as the most accessible and inclusive walk internationally in more than 160 countries.
The International Association of Sports for All is an organization recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and that is why it is part of this activity that takes place on the first Sunday in October.
The Dominican Kurash Federation (Fedokurash) held the meeting of the Executive Committee in the Manuel (Cholo) Suero Meeting Room of the Technical Directorate of the Ministry of Sports and Recreation (Miderec).
The meeting was attended by doctors Israel Agustín Caraballo Jimenez and Alquimedes Ortiz Cruz, as well as engineer Jaime Casanova Martinez and Mr. Franklin Perez in their capacity as president, vice president, secretary and treasurer, respectively, on October 27.
The developed agenda reviewed the activities of the Panamerican Kurash Week that took place in the country from August 22 to 29 and discussed the upcoming international commitments of the Kurash World Series Pro (WSP) and the XIV World Kurash Championships to be held. in Tashkent and Ashgabat, respectively, among other issues.
In this way, during almost the entire month of November we waited for the response of support from the Ministry of Sports for international participation, support that did not arrive.
This forced us to request the assistance of the International Kurash Association, which provided the six (6) air tickets for the previously selected athletes and their stay for the entire International Circuit with stops in Tashkent and Ashgabat.
The athletes traveled without visa or travel expenses, likewise, without any coach, overcoming the greatest hardships that were rewarded with a silver and bronze medal in the Kurash World Series Pro (WSP) in the hands of Audrey Puello and Tomas Belen.
The final success was in the XIV World Championships and belonged to Audrey Puello as World Champion of over 87 kilograms, winning all the fights against her opponents, what a reward!
Now Fedokurash is preparing to prepare an important Program of Activities for next 2024 that guarantees national development with broad international representation.
