En la República Dominicana, la festividad tiene lugar el último domingo de mayo, establecida oficialmente e 1926 durante el gobierno del general Horacio Vásquez.
Fue la esposa del presidente Horacio Vásquez, la señora Trina de Moya quien junto a la excelsa estucadora Ercilia Pepín quienes crearon un comité para esta celebración a la vez que compusieron el Himno a Las Madres a la vez que realizaban una serie de actividades publicas y privadas.

a todas las madres de la creación.
Quien como una madre

nos disipa el miedo
nos calma el dolor
con solo brindarnos
su regazo santo,

la sonrisa tierna, el joven
la noble benéfica acción,
recuerda el anciano
