International Kurash Association holds Directing Committee meeting in Kuwait

On August 4, 2015, the International Kurash Association held its Directing Committee meeting in Kuwait, at the Headquarters of the Olympic Council of Asia. More than 15 members of the Directing Committee coming from Asia, Europe, Africa and Pan America, from countries like Kuwait, Dominican Republic, Republic of South Africa, Uzbekistan, Mozambique, Poland, Iran, Ukraine, Greece and others, discussed at the meeting chaired by the IKA President, Director of Asian Games Department of OCA Mr. Haider A. Farman various matters related to the activities of the IKA in the world. 

In particular, the meeting heard the reports of the Continental Union Presidents; report about inclusion of Kurash into the Indian National School Games, the Games which unite more than one million schools around one of two most populated nations in the world; report on upcoming X World senior championships and XV IKA Ordinary Congress to be held in  coming November in Iran; calendar of international competitions and seminars for 2016-2018; as well as changes and amendments to the Statutes of IKA.

International Kurash Association is an international sport organization founded in 1998 and presently having as its member four continental unions (Asia, Europe, Africa and Pan America) and 122 national Kurash federations. The IKA promotes and controls the sport Kurash, an 3500 years old upright jacket martial art which has its roots in Uzbekistan.

Kurash was officially recognized by the Olympic Council of Asia in 2003 and since then features in number of editions of OCA’s Games as demonstration and official sport: as demonstration sport in 2006 Asian Summer Games in Doha and 2007 Asian Indoor Games in Macau; as official sport in 2009 Asian Martial Arts Games in Bangkok, 2009 Asian Indoor Games in Hanoi, 2013 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Incheon, 2014 Asian Beach Games in Phuket. 

Kurash will also feature in the official competition program of the 2016 Asian Beach Games in Vietnam and 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Turkmenistan.
